Song: The Wind by Cat Stevens

When I first sat down and looked at the painting, "Looking Out". I saw the isolation that I
felt at the time. The beautiful world outside seemed separate from the woman inside, lost in a darkened blue
room. But as I continued to gaze at the painting, I realized that all the beautiful light and colors were reflected
directly onto the woman on the other side of the window, basking her in beauty and light. I realized then that there
truly is no separation. I and the world I live in are one. And although we sometimes feel that we live in darkness,
there is always light if we can but look both beyond and within ourselves. Thus to me, this painting speaks eloquently of
how art can bring insight, healing, and transformation.

The Spanish word "Querencia" does not translate easily
into English, but it is that place in the bullring where the wounded bull retreats to rest and feel safe. It roughly means
the "power of place," and expresses the feeling of being at home, or a "wholeness." The following painting is a window
into my favorite place in the world. A place where I feel completely myself, at home, and where all is as it should be......mi
querencia.

The following painting was done as a challenge
from one of my dearest friends. We were both dwelling in a dark place, and as he put it, "When you lose your creative
outlet to depression, it's skeery." He challenged to me to paint, "Safely simmering below reach", and the following
painting was my response. In turn, i
challenged him to paint something to do with finding that place of calm within the center of yourself, which i posted here
also. And here, i have to thank my friend ez, for challenging
me to paint when i felt i could not. And for reminding me that even within the darkest of hours, there is
life and light within. Such a beautiful gift you have given me, my friend. Love you dearly,
afire
